Types of Private Jets and Prices
Private jets come in all shapes and sizes. From very light jets to executive liners and heavy jets, there are several types of private jets from which to choose. Each of the different jets have some varying characteristics that can help you determine the ideal jet to charter. Here are a few tips on private jets and prices.
Types of Private Jets and Prices
This article highlights the different kinds of private jets. We’ve put them into simple categories that make it easy to differentiate the various types so that you can easily enjoy the benefits of private jets.
Very Light Jets
These are relatively new entrants into the private jet industry and simply offer an alternative to turboprop and piston aircraft for budget-friendly ultra-short-haul journeys. They’re popular with both point-to-point air taxi and personal use, capable of using shorter runways and are generally cheaper to run than standard private jets. They typically don’t have flight attendants onboard and some will have a lavatory while others won’t. Examples include the Eclipse 500, the Embraer Phenom 100 and Cessna Citation Mustang.
Light Jets
These are probably one of the most common types of jets chartered for business. Most business travel flights fit within the 2–3-hour radius, making light jets the most comfortable and cost-efficient planes for short-haul flights at a good cruising altitude. Most light jets carry about eight passengers with a broad range of hold-size options. They are more cost-effective than larger jets and still have a good range. Most will have a flight attendant on board and an onboard lavatory whereas some don’t. Common Light Jet models include the Hawker Beechcraft Premier A1, Cessna Citation CJ4 and the Dassault Falcon 10.
Mid Size Jets
When it comes to mid-size jets, there are different combinations of comfort, speed and range, which allows them to be viable for both short-haul and long-haul flights. They’re a popular choice largely due to their ample luggage compartments, lower operating costs and better efficiency when compared to larger heavy jets. Most of them offer full stand-up cabins and some have a flight attendant on board when flying anywhere.
Heavy Jets
These come in two categories:
- Standard heavy jets designed to fly further than lighter jets.
- Ultra-long range heavy jets designed to offer the best luxury in the Heavy jets category.
Heavy jets are luxurious with enclosed bathrooms and flight attendants as well as plenty of passenger and baggage capacity, stand-up cabins and lie-flat beds. Examples include the Gulfstream GIV and the Embraer Legacy 650. Ultra-long-range heavy jets include the Gulfstream G550 and the Bombardier Global 6000.
Executive Airlines
Executive and VIP airliners are in a class of their own. These offer the best in luxury and can include everything from dining areas and private suites to business and conference centers. Some of the most luxurious aircraft include the Embraer Lineage 1000, Boeing BJJ and the Airbus A318 Elite.
Bottom Line
When it comes to prices, costs vary based on various factors ranging from the length of the flight to the type and size of aircraft. Typically, executive airlines will cost more than light private jets. Those are some of the types of private jets and prices.
