Epoxy floors are popular because of their easy installation and durability. Maintaining epoxy is easy compared to other flooring materials. The right approaches when buffing epoxy floors will help get the most out of them. Epoxy floors are mostly used in manufacturing companies, retail stores and restaurants.

Buffing Epoxy Floors

There are different routines that can be applied on a daily, weekly and/or yearly basis that will ensure the floors last longer. When cleaning, use a non-alkaline cleanser as it is gentle and will not remove the coating. As much as it easy to restore the shine on epoxy floors with regular scrubbing and cleaning, a new coat can be applied when the old one starts to wear off. When reapplying epoxy, follow all the steps correctly to achieve the best result. If this part of the maintenance process proves to be difficult, hire professionals that will ensure the work is properly done.

Maintenance

An epoxy floor is very easy to maintain and lasts long. Like any other materials, how well it is maintained will increase its lifespan. Because of its ability to last long and not show any signs of wear, epoxy is installed in areas with heavy traffic flow. Daily sweeping or mopping of floors will remove tiny particles that will scratch the floor. If harsh chemicals spill, they should be immediately cleaned to avoid any damage to the floor. Harsh chemicals will permanently damage the floor. On a weekly basis, thoroughly scrub the floors while checking for any stain or damage. For any cuts, scratches or staining that cannot be handled, call the installers and have them manage the issue.

Cleaning Agents

Using the right cleaning agents for the floor will help it last longer and keep it looking new. This should be done on a weekly basis. A non-alkaline cleanser is ideal for use as it will not strip away the coating in the process. Mix one third of a cup of dishwashing soap with five litres of water and use the solution to clean moderately large rooms. Do not use brushes with hard bristles because they will strip off the coating.

Recoating

As stated earlier, epoxy floors do not need much care in order to last and still look good. However, there comes a time when the floors no longer shine and a new coat has to be applied. If the space is not too large, one person can do it on his/her own. For large spaces, it is advisable to let the professionals handle it. Recoating requires buffing, sanding the previous coating and filling any spaces or cracks. Clean the floor properly before applying a coat of epoxy. All the steps should be properly handled to get good, lasting results. This task can prove to be difficult especially in large areas and that is why leaving it to the professionals is highly recommended.

Bottom Line

When properly maintained, epoxy floors will offer a great service to the owner of the establishment. Remember to follow up with sanding after buffing epoxy floors. This helps the new coat set in better. Filling up all the spaces and cracks will help in the even distribution of the coating and future shine.
